First of all, I would like to thank you all for visiting our website. The recent intensified changes in the climate affect the global water cycle and the volatility of water resources, population growth, urbanization and industrialization. This is leading to an increase in the demand for water. Such an imbalance of water will continue to be a factor of conflicts in the international community, and it is becoming an important issue in the aspect of national security as well as the socio-economic aspect of a country. The OECD predicted that sales of water industry will be the highest among the world’s four major industries (water industry, power industry, telecom industry, and road industry), and I think such aspects have contributed to this prediction.

As a result, developed countries are striving to preoccupy the multinational water industry market by supporting and fostering the water industry at the state level and have established and implemented a variety of support policies, such as fostering leading technologies of the water industry, securing professional manpower and strengthening international networks. In fact, the GWI predicts that the world’s water industry will grow by 4.9% per annum, creating a market worth 865 million dollars by 2025, and the water industry of the 21st century is valued as a highly profitable industry.

In Korea, ‘A Strategy of Fostering Water Industry’ and ‘A Strategy of Fostering Smart Water Industry’ were established and announced in 2010 and 2016, respectively, to recognize the importance of the water industry and make Korea a powerful nation of water industry. In order to pursue this national strategy for the water industry, Gyeonggido also added the establishment of the Water Industry Support Center in January 2015 to the ordinance and suggested a plan to establish the Gyeonggi Water Industry Support Center as one of the measures to create a water industry support infrastructure and construct the system, while setting up a five-year comprehensive plan to foster the Gyeonggido Water Industry in June of the same year.

The Gyeonggi Water Industry Support Center was established in April 2018 with the purpose of integrating water enterprises of Gyeonggido, related organizations, and infrastructure to form a strong network that builds and nurtures the foundation for the long-term development of the water industry while serving as a control tower for the water industry in Gyeonggido.

I believe that Gyeonggido has sufficient capability to play a pivotal role in the development of the Korean water industry as it has abundant and various tangible and intangible resources of the water industry compared to other regions such as water-related companies and manpower, water and sewage infrastructure and experience of managing Korea’s largest Paldang water source. In order to further develop the capability of the water industry in Gyeonggido, we are working to expand export capacities, promote the water industry and create jobs by expanding and linking the infrastructure of the water industry and strengthening the competitiveness of water companies.
